Position Overview: The Boys & Girls Club of Garfield is dedicated to empowering young individuals, particularly those who require our support the most, to achieve their utmost potential as responsible, productive, and compassionate members of society.

Full Job Description: We are currently in search of a dedicated, enthusiastic, and nurturing Camp Counselor to assist with general oversight and childcare, as well as daily maintenance and cleaning tasks during our After School Program. The primary duty of the selected candidate will be to ensure the safety of club members while facilitating the smooth operation of programming throughout the after-school hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in all staff training sessions and meetings.
  • Guide individual campers and groups in participating in all camp activities.
  • Oversee all aspects of the campers' daily schedule, including outdoor play.
  • Assist in instructing or leading activities as designated.
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers and peers, demonstrating cleanliness, punctuality, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Organize and facilitate various small and large group activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with Counselors in Training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols established by the organization.
  • Effective time-management and multitasking capabilities.
  • Proficient verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for working with children in outdoor settings.

Qualifications:
  • Availability to work throughout the entire camp season without significant interruptions.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and work up to four hours daily in an active, youth-centered environment that may involve physical exertion.
  • Educational background and experience in camp settings, youth programs, recreation, or related fields.
  • Ability to independently run a program and develop lesson plans.
  • First Aid, AED, and BLS/CPR certifications are preferred.
