SALARY: $37,616.00 annually
POSITION SUMMARYThis role is a crucial non-supervisory position focused on safeguarding individuals and property. Responsibilities encompass the delivery of civil court documents, execution of arrest warrants, and maintaining accurate office records. The position involves patrolling rural regions and providing assistance to local government entities. This role is not covered under Civil Service regulations and will be based at the Tropical Texas Behavioral Health Office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Safeguard life and property.
- Deliver legal documents including citations, notices, summons, and subpoenas.
- Maintain daily logs of served documents.
- Act as bailiff in court proceedings.
- Enforce federal and state regulations.
- Work on rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Operate emergency response vehicles.
- Respond to crises such as hurricanes, floods, and riots.
- Conduct patrols in rural areas.
- Assist in crime prevention initiatives.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement officers or agencies.
- Secure crime scenes.
- Investigate vehicular incidents.
- Enforce criminal and traffic laws through citations and investigations.
- May undertake additional related tasks as assigned.
- Provide testimony in court as mandated by law.
- Coordinate the removal, transport, and storage of confiscated items.
- Apprehend and detain law violators.
- Transport detainees as directed by judicial authorities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of two years of investigative experience is preferred.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIESKNOWLEDGE: Familiarity with the Texas Penal Code, Traffic Code, Family Law, and Juvenile Law. Proficient in grammar and effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently, analyze issues, and formulate solutions. Understanding of state and federal laws relevant to employee benefits. Proficient in operating personal computers and basic office equipment. Adaptability to rapidly changing situations and multitasking.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSPossession of a basic Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. A valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator's License with a satisfactory driving record is required. Must provide a Birth Certificate and Social Security Number.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThis position requires working rotating shifts and involves physical activities such as handling, sitting, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and twisting. The ability to chase and apprehend suspects is necessary. Physical demands include lifting and transporting individuals for safety or custody purposes, and maintaining composure in distressing situations.
CONTACTS AND RESPONSIBILITIESEXTERNAL CONTACTS: Regular interaction with the public, law enforcement agencies, and emergency responders, primarily through telephone, radio, and in-person communication.
INTERNAL CONTACTS: Frequent communication with elected officials, department heads, co-workers, and other county employees through various means including in-person discussions, phone calls, and written correspondence.
IMPACT: The role of Deputy Constable significantly influences the public perception of law enforcement and requires the handling of sensitive information related to law enforcement activities.
