Job Description

**Job Summary**

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a highly skilled and experienced physician leader to serve as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for MUSC Physicians. The CMO will provide strategic leadership to the academic physician practice plan, focusing on operational, clinical, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans to improve patient care and clinical efficiency, focusing on key priority areas identified in partnership with MUSCP and MUSCH leaders.
  • Collaborate with service line ICCE leadership to align goals related to medical staff performance, quality assurance, resource utilization, and adherence to medical staff bylaws.
  • Work with the Chief Quality Officer to develop and implement comprehensive systems to monitor, evaluate, and improve the quality and safety of patient care throughout the organization.
  • Participate in the development of MUSC Physicians compliance initiatives and foster the adoption of compliance policies and adherence to regulations.
  • Collaborate with MUSC Health Charleston Ambulatory Chief to maximize clinic efficiencies and appropriately utilize resources, personnel, and space.
  • Develop and promote activities and initiatives to reduce burnout and increase wellness among physicians and care team members.
  • Assist in the expansion of MUSCs physician network, with the goal of making MUSC Health the preferred partner for local and regional referring physicians.

Requirements

  • 10 years of progressive leadership experience, with experience that includes program leadership.
  • Board certification and licensure in good standing.
  • Graduate-level degrees in health administration and/or business administration desirable.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of physician/clinical care operations, financial stewardship, physician management, and physician payment models.
  • Prior P&L/budget responsibility, and technical knowledge of financial principles related to healthcare and physician reimbursement in an academic environment.
