Job Title: HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic to join our team at Brown University. As an HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing skilled journeyperson level work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems, and their controls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform skilled maintenance, repair, and installation of refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems, and their controls.
  • Respond to campus emergencies both during and off shift.
  • Read and interpret Service Orders and instructions.
  • Read and understand plans, blueprints, and schematics related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Work independently on all HVAC and refrigeration maintenance and repair projects.
  • Balance air and hydronic heating and cooling systems.
  • Use a computer, laptop, or mobile device comfortably to enter accurate records of work performed and materials used into FM's computerized maintenance management software.

Requirements:

  • High School graduate or possess a general equivalency degree (GED).
  • State of Rhode Island Refrigeration/Journeyperson II License.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience required.
  • Certification as a Universal Technician, awarded by a program certified by the EPA.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Maintain licenses as a condition of employment.
  • Thorough knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret Service Orders and instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand plans, blueprints, and schematics related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Ability to work independently on all HVAC and refrigeration maintenance and repair projects.
  • Ability to balance air and hydronic heating and cooling systems.
  • Ability to use a computer, laptop, or mobile device comfortably.

Additional Requirements:

  • Physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Physically able to walk throughout the campus and climb stairs throughout the duration of the shift.
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, bucket truck, and staging at various heights.
  • Ability to work in areas needing a respirator.
