Job Summary

VPI Technology, a division of Ludlum Measurements, Inc., is seeking a highly skilled Chemical Research Scientist to join our team in a dynamic and challenging role. As a key member of our Eljen Technology division, you will be responsible for supporting chemical manufacturing, product development, and quality control in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct Laboratory Tasks Safely: Perform laboratory tasks with due attention to safety data sheets and in compliance with environmental health and safety standards.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures: Adhere to standard operation processes and ensure satisfactory completion of tasks.
  • Identify and Recommend Improvements: Identify areas for improvement in processes, products, and quality, and recommend changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Prepare Laboratory Reports: Write and present laboratory reports to stakeholders, highlighting key findings and recommendations.
  • Maintain Comprehensive Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation on assigned projects, and review with peers and/or manager.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory and Interdepartmental Teams: Work collaboratively with laboratory and interdepartmental teams to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Operate and Maintain Laboratory Equipment: Operate, maintain, and test laboratory equipment, identifying problems and conducting or recommending repairs.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Materials: Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and safety materials, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other duties as assigned by management, in support of the team's goals and objectives.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent Chemistry Background: Possess a strong chemistry background, including product development and laboratory experience.
  • Excellent Organizational Skills: Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient with Laboratory Software and Applications: Possess the ability to quickly learn and adapt to laboratory software and applications used for chemical tests and analysis.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering: Possess a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, with related laboratory work experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged Sitting and Computer Work: Spend prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Lifting and Physical Activity: Be able to lift 15 pounds at times, and engage in physical activity as required by the role.
  • Exposure to Chemicals and Compounds: Be exposed to various chemicals and compounds, and identify, select, and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
