Overview
This position encompasses the full performance level in the series, executing a comprehensive range of food preparation tasks alongside security-related duties, which include training and overseeing inmates/youth food service workers.Career Advancement
Upon successful completion of departmental promotional criteria and job obligations, employees may qualify for promotion to the next level.Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities are fundamental, core functions common to all roles in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any single position. As class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents may perform similar duties not specifically listed here. Implements food service principles, practices, and methods governing food preparation activities, including food handling, proper storage, and temperature control, as well as cleaning kitchen equipment and utensils to meet safety and sanitary standards.Trains inmate food service workers in the operation of various commercial kitchen equipment, including dishwashers, ovens, toasters, meat slicers, choppers, deep fryers, food processors, steam pots, blenders, and mixers.
Guides inmates/youth food service workers in food preparation, cooking, and safe food handling and storage.
Supervises inmates/youths in their kitchen roles, directing their activities and fostering a positive working environment.
Maintains a supportive relationship with youth/inmate food service workers through effective listening skills and providing guidance as necessary.
Prepares and cooks meals.
Oversees kitchen utensils, tools, and equipment.
Enforces institutional and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to maintain discipline, order, security, and cleanliness in assigned areas and among staff.
Enforces personal hygiene standards for inmate/youth food service workers to uphold sanitary conditions.
Compiles various reports and maintains accurate records.
Participates in various Department-approved training programs.
