Texas Oncology is seeking a Senior Phlebotomist to support our operations. This role is essential in ensuring the collection and processing of patient specimens.

This position may be filled at level 1, 2, or Senior based on the candidate's relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Conducting phlebotomy and collecting necessary specimens from patients as directed. Ensuring pre-authorizations and obtaining appropriate consent (ABN) prior to the collection of limited coverage tests.

- Maintaining accurate documentation as outlined by the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists.

- Keeping an adequate inventory of supplies and confirming that all materials are suitable for patient collection.

- Sending specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in-house.

- Processing incoming lab testing orders and managing in-house and incoming reports.

- Updating and organizing all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs.

- Properly identifying and banding patients for blood product transfusions and processing specimens according to local blood bank policies.

- Operating designated laboratory equipment as instructed and maintaining the equipment and work area as required.

- Performing waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines and documenting proper lot numbers for all controls, calibrators, and reagents used in waived lab tests.

- Complying with regulatory agency standards and adhering to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.

- Disposing of hazardous materials properly and maintaining a clean working environment while restocking the phlebotomy and laboratory area as necessary.

- Ensuring confidentiality of all patient and medical staff information.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Senior Phlebotomist position will possess the following qualifications:

- Level 1: Entry-level position requiring no prior experience. A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Licensure from an accredited phlebotomy program is recommended. Current state licensure is required if applicable.

- Level 2: Requires three years of relevant experience in addition to Level 1 requirements.

- Senior Level: Requires five or more years of relevant experience in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements.

Position requires sitting/standing for extended periods, with the use of hands for manipulation and arms for reaching or carrying.

Occasionally, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 lbs is necessary. Corrected vision, color perception, and normal hearing range are required. Legible handwriting is essential.
