Job Description

Job Title: Safety Specialist

Summary of the Position:

The Safety Specialist is responsible for managing and monitoring safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet regulatory requirements. This includes facilitating inspections to identify unsafe conditions and training for proactive safety measures.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct daily facility walk-throughs to identify safety concerns and conduct compliance audits.

Coordinate with the Corporate Safety team on all issues that require immediate attention.

Perform initial and reoccurring forklift training.

Maintain safety communication boards and postings, and prepare written reports and metrics for the Corporate Safety Department.

Conduct safety trainings and champion site corporate safety programs.

Assist supervisors/managers in accident/incident investigations and assist with completion of all required documentation.

Manage the safety committee and all related activities.

Maintain local safety training documentation, including safety training, monthly safety meetings, and monthly safety committee minutes.

Coordinate quarterly facility inspections.

Ensure the manufacturing, distribution, and maintenance of safe and quality food by following current good manufacturing practices, allergen/sanitation controls, food defense/food fraud, HACCP/FSMA, SQF, and regulatory requirements.

Maintain and document preventative controls necessary to ensure food safety and quality.

Report all food safety and quality issues to management immediately.

Partner with others, share knowledge, skills, and information within assigned teams and across functional areas.

Enhance technical and functional competencies, as well as professional and leadership development.

Qualifications:

Associate or bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Safety or Behavioral based leadership preferred.

Two years of experience in safety or related discipline.

Experience in training safety programs and preventing unsafe conditions and acts.

Some knowledge of OSHA regulations preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

OSHA 30 preferred.

Certified Safety Professional preferred.

Associate Safety Professional preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Ability to communicate with all levels of management as well as hourly employees.

Bilingual, English/Spanish strongly preferred.
