Position Overview

The Pharmacy Operations Manager oversees and directs the pharmaceutical services within a significant segment of a large pharmacy department, which may include inpatient, outpatient, or specialized services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional leadership to a team of pharmacists.
  • Support personnel engaged in various pharmaceutical processes.
  • Consult with medical staff regarding pharmaceutical issues.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of chemical, biological, and pharmacological sciences to resolve complex compounding and dispensing challenges.
  • Ensure accuracy in all pharmacy operations, subject to oversight by a professional superior.
Pharmacy practices are subject to regulatory audits as mandated by state and federal guidelines.

Core Duties

In Collaboration with Leadership:

  • Set strategic goals for pharmacy services, considering the unique needs of diverse patient populations.
  • Develop and implement new clinical services tailored to patient demographics.
  • Allocate resources effectively to enhance service delivery.
  • Coordinate educational initiatives for pharmacy students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Oversee drug utilization programs, ensuring adherence to established criteria.
  • Participate in the credentialing of clinical pharmacists and relevant committees.
  • Act as a resource for pharmacy staff regarding clinical activities and education.
  • Facilitate clinical operations of pharmacists within designated areas.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary meetings pertinent to clinical pharmacy services.
  • Supervise the patient care coordinator supporting the specialty area.
  • Participate in the recruitment process for clinical pharmacist roles.
  • Maintain active involvement in clinical practice, research, and professional development.
  • Foster relationships with medical and nursing staff to enhance collaborative practice.
  • Establish a robust network of professional contacts at local and national levels.
  • Perform additional duties as required, embodying the values of service excellence.
Qualifications

Typically requires 5 to 7 years of relevant experience, including supervisory roles.

Education

A graduate degree in a relevant specialty is required.

Licensure

Must possess a valid pharmacy license as mandated.
