Position Summary:
Join our team as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Observation Unit, where you will provide essential care to patients in a dynamic environment. This unit is designed for acute care, addressing a variety of medical issues including cardiac, surgical, and behavioral health conditions. Our goal is to ensure a holistic approach to patient care, aligning with the mission of Carle Foundation Hospital.
Position Highlights:
- 35-bed Observation Unit
- Patient length of stay typically ranges from 24-48 hours
- Nurse to Patient ratio: 1:5-6
Department Culture:
Our Observation Unit fosters a collaborative and fast-paced environment. We emphasize teamwork and maintain strong partnerships with physicians and ancillary staff to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Regular meetings with our Partnership Committee enhance our unit's culture, supported by dedicated nurse supervisors and an educator.
Essential Nursing Skills:
- Administering medications, including IV piggybacks and fluids (excluding IV Push)
- Documenting patient assessments and care plans
- Collaborating with healthcare providers for coordinated patient care
- Performing dressing changes, wound care, and trach care
- Inserting NG tubes and managing feedings
- Reinforcing patient education and discharge instructions
Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements: College Diploma in Nursing
- Certification & Licensure: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Illinois upon hire
- Experience Requirements: None specified
