Position Summary

The Communication Specialist in Speech Therapy plays a crucial role in evaluating, planning, and implementing tailored intervention strategies aimed at maximizing students' learning capabilities. This position is dedicated to fostering the skills necessary for students to thrive in an educational setting and to promote their independence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the principles outlined by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
  • Conduct screenings, assessments, and diagnoses of communication disorders, including articulation, voice, language, and fluency issues.
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions and provide ongoing consultation and support for children facing communication challenges.
  • Establish specific, achievable goals and objectives, and evaluate treatment effectiveness through systematic monitoring and data analysis.
  • Advise students, families, and other professionals on the management of communication disorders and facilitate referrals as necessary.
  • Select and implement assistive technology solutions and alternative communication methods to enhance communication effectiveness.
  • Engage in continuous professional development by attending relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences, as well as maintaining collaborative professional relationships.

Qualifications

Required Credentials
  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology or a related discipline.
  • Possession of a valid Colorado Special Services Provider License through the Colorado Department of Education, with an endorsement in Speech/Language Pathology, or evidence of a submitted application for such a license.
