Pediatric Emergency Medicine Specialist

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a skilled Pediatric Emergency Medicine Specialist to join our team.


Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care for patients with various medical and surgical issues, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to assess, diagnose, and treat patients. Key responsibilities include performing emergency procedures, engaging in consultations, and developing tailored discharge plans while ensuring effective communication with patients and their families.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients of all acuity levels with medical and/or surgical complaints
  • Collaborate with board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians, PEM fellows, emergency medicine and pediatrics residents, medical students, RNs, clinical assistants, and others in the Emergency Department
  • Perform detailed histories and physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and develop and execute a wide range of care plans using sound clinical reasoning and critical thinking
  • Engage in consultations with subspecialty services to aid in patient care
  • Perform emergency medicine procedures (including laceration repairs, incision and drainage, lumbar punctures, joint relocations, splinting, removal of nasal/ear foreign bodies, local nerve anesthesia and blocks)
  • Develop discharge care plans with patients and families, including prescribing medications and confirming primary care or specialty care follow-up
  • Communicate with patients and families in a respectful manner, leading to compassionate and empathetic care
  • Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health issues

Requirements:

  • A Master of Science in Nursing and certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner or Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies
  • ~1-2 years of NP or PA Emergency Department or Urgent Care experience required
