Masonicare Health Center - Behavioral Health Nurse

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Behavioral Health Nurse to join our team at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT. As a Behavioral Health Nurse, you will provide high-quality care to emotionally disturbed and mentally ill patients, working collaboratively with clinical and case management staff to coordinate care and assist in treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients, including medication administration, teaching, and supervision of nursing staff.
  • Conduct intake assessments, perform ongoing and systematic assessments, and develop comprehensive goal-directed interdisciplinary plans.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure treatment is appropriate and effective.
  • Administer and note reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications, and arrange further medical attention when necessary.
  • Assist patients in understanding their emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment, and maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
  • Test for vital signs of pain and ensure treatments of pain, document patient information on medical charts, and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Supervise the care provided by CNAs and LPNs, ensuring adherence to the plan of care, resident profile, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in educational programs, inservices, meetings, and workshops to enhance professional skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Minimum one year clinical experience, preferably in an acute and/or Behavioral Health capacity.
  • Current RN or LPN license in the State of Connecticut, in good standing.

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients.
  • Knowledge of social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders.
  • Ability to apply professional nursing care principles and procedures in the evaluation and treatment of geropsychiatric patients.
  • Ability to develop interpersonal therapeutic relationships with psychiatric patients.

Working Conditions:

This is a night shift position, 40 hours per week, with the opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive team environment.
