Position Overview:

The Procurement Specialist plays a crucial role in the strategic planning, acquisition, and scheduling of materials and services essential for the production of goods within designated lines or sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initiates and modifies purchase orders for components, services, and specialized tools; coordinates the submission and evaluation of sample products as necessary; collaborates closely with engineering teams to ensure prompt sourcing of products and services.
  • Obtains and evaluates quotes, negotiates pricing and terms with vendors, and recommends suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery efficiency for assigned tasks.
  • Works in tandem with strategic sourcing teams to promote enterprise-wide sourcing initiatives as appropriate.
  • Analyzes market pricing and trends, engineering advancements, and improvements in manufacturing methods relevant to assigned duties; provides insights to company activities with the approval of a senior buyer or purchasing director.
  • Engages with current and potential suppliers to assess supply capabilities, logistics, and inventory management; negotiates pricing and delivery terms under the guidance of a senior buyer or purchasing director.
  • Coordinates the planning of recent schedules and inventory management parameters for assigned products and services in alignment with operational requirements.
  • Develops and implements strategies, with guidance from a senior buyer or purchasing director, to achieve small business and disadvantaged business sourcing objectives in accordance with company policies.
  • Visits supplier facilities to qualify them as new sources and aids in resolving production, design, quality, or delivery issues.
  • Must thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Associate's Degree or 5-6 years of experience in a purchasing or procurement role.
  • Experience in an engineer-to-order environment.
  • Familiarity with global sourcing and procurement.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of change management and urgency.
  • Detail-oriented approach.

Knowledge:

  • Proficient in Epicore ERP system, including Buyer Workbench functionality, BOM structure, Router structure, and Purchase Order and Work Order management.
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to negotiate with suppliers on terms, pricing, delivery, and quality issues.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively in a team environment while managing internal pressures.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and product specifications.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical/Environmental Demands:

  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled office environment, with occasional visits to the production floor for discussions with team members.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to manage mental challenges, especially during peak demand periods.
