Overview:

Under the guidance of the Public Safety Captain, this role encompasses a variety of responsibilities focused on ensuring the safety and security of airport operations. The position involves structural firefighting, aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF), emergency medical services, and law enforcement duties as mandated by federal, state, and local authorities. A key aspect of this role is to provide exceptional customer service and support to all airport stakeholders on a daily basis. The standard work schedule for this position is 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responds to calls for service via radio, pager, and phone, addressing aircraft, structural, HAZMAT, EMS, and law enforcement requests as directed.
  • Conducts proactive patrols throughout the airport to enhance public safety visibility and takes necessary actions when required.
  • Facilitates training sessions as determined by department leadership across various disciplines, including law enforcement, firefighting, EMS, and FAA regulations.
  • Performs regular checks and maintenance on facilities, equipment, and vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
  • Investigates suspected criminal activities on airport premises and takes appropriate measures to resolve issues.
  • Maintains proficiency in public safety duties, including law enforcement and ARFF operations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to comprehend relevant regulations, including FAR Part 139, TSR Part 1542, and the Kentucky Penal Code.
  • Possesses strong English language skills, enabling effective oral and written communication, including report preparation and presentations.
  • Fosters positive relationships with airport tenants, employees, stakeholders, and guests, delivering high-quality customer service in response to inquiries.
  • As a Public Safety Officer III, responsibilities include coordinating public safety operations during assigned shifts, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting security checks, and documenting incidents appropriately.
Qualifications:
  • Must hold certification as a State Peace Officer (POPS) by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council with a minimum of two years of full-time experience.
  • Kentucky EMT certification is preferred.
Requirements include:
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical and medical examinations.
  • No felony convictions or ongoing criminal prosecutions.
  • Vaccination for Hepatitis B or signed declination form within ten days of assignment.
  • Successful completion of initial physical agility test and ongoing physical fitness assessments.
Physical and Environmental Demands:

This position is classified as requiring heavy to very heavy physical exertion as per the Americans with Disabilities Act. The role necessitates the ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, and may involve confined or elevated spaces. Physical tasks include climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and remaining on foot for extended periods. The role also requires the capability to respond to physical threats and defend oneself if necessary.

Special Requirements:
  • A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass random drug screenings and background checks, which may include criminal and credit history.
