Position Overview

Role Responsibilities
  • Scrub Role Duties: Engage in assigned scrub responsibilities, including:
    • Assisting during emergency scenarios as needed.
    • Ensuring a secure working environment in line with regulatory standards.
    • Maintaining accurate educational documentation and timekeeping.
    • Upholding professional competencies.
    • Preparing a sterile field promptly.
    • Adhering to departmental protocols regarding specimens and instrument handling.
    • Maintaining the sterile field throughout procedures.
    • Serving as a mentor, sharing expertise in a constructive manner.
    • Being available for on-call duties.
  • Surgical Field Preparation: Responsible for the surgical environment and the instruments provided:
    • Confirming the availability of instruments and supplies as per physician preferences.
    • Assisting in the unwrapping of sterile supplies.
    • Helping with cleanup and turnover after procedures.
    • Utilizing supplies efficiently to minimize waste and costs.
    • Understanding the specific requirements of the physician through thorough preparation.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in partnership with the healthcare team to foster a cooperative atmosphere:
    • Demonstrating initiative in managing work time effectively.
    • Contributing to the goals of Surgical Services and Advocate Aurora.
    • Sharing clinical knowledge in a supportive manner.
    • Completing assigned team responsibilities.
  • Policy Compliance: Adhere to hospital policies and procedures:
    • Maintaining patient confidentiality.
    • Utilizing effective communication techniques with healthcare team members and patients.

    • Exhibiting self-direction in skill maintenance.
    • Independently completing projects and assignments.
    • Participating in unit and hospital committees.
Licensure Requirements
  • Must hold a valid Surgical Technologist license.
Education and Experience
  • 1-2 years of operating room scrub experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Completion of a Surgical Technology program accredited by NBSTSA or NCCT.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to perform scrub duties independently.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • CST Certification from NBSTSA is necessary.
Physical Requirements
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with others and communicate effectively, even with a mask on.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and stressful environment, including working weekends and holidays.
  • On-call responsibilities may be required.
