Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs duties in the scrub role: Assists in emergency situations, maintains a safe work environment, and prepares sterile fields in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the preparation of the surgical field and supplies: Verifies instrument availability, assists with opening sterile supplies, and efficiently utilizes supplies to avoid waste.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team: Assists in providing a cooperative work environment, shares clinical and professional knowledge, and accepts team responsibilities.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures: Maintains patient confidentiality, utilizes guest relation techniques, and adheres to regulatory agency standards.
  • Maintains professional growth: Demonstrates self-direction in maintaining professional skills, completes assignments independently, and participates in unit/hospital committees and projects.

Licensure and Education:

  • Surgical Technologist: Requires completion of a ST program in an accredited school approved by NBSTSA or NCCT.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good communication skills: Ability to communicate effectively with the healthcare team and patients.
  • Ability to independently perform scrub duties: Demonstrates self-direction and independence in performing scrub duties.
  • CPR certification: Required for all employees.
  • CST Certification: Approved by NBSTSA.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening disease and radiation: Requires ability to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time: Requires ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds: Requires ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to cooperate and work well with others: Requires ability to work collaboratively with the healthcare team.
