Electrochemistry Research Scientist

Sublime Systems is a pioneering technology company dedicated to revolutionizing the cement industry with ultra-low-carbon solutions. Our innovative approach replaces traditional fossil fuel-fired kilns with an electrochemical system that operates at ambient temperature, eliminating the need for limestone and resulting in low-carbon, low-embodied energy cement. This technology has the potential to drive significant CO2 reductions in an industry responsible for 8 percent of global emissions.
We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist l/II to contribute to the development of our proprietary electrochemical reaction system. This role will involve conducting research, including hands-on lab-scale testing, data analysis, and literature reviews, as well as collaborating with our engineering team to scale our technology. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of electrochemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science fundamentals, as well as experience with electrochemical systems or characterization methods.
Responsibilities Include:
- Developing new experimental methods and tools to drive the improvement of Sublime's electrochemical reaction system
- Performing lab experiments, including synthesis and materials characterization, operating electrochemical systems, analyzing data, and presenting results
- Contributing to the development of Sublime's process through literature reviews and informational interviews with industry experts
- Contributing to the development of Sublime's complete, innovative solution
- Championing safety, especially in the development of experimental processes and in the construction of Sublime's pilot plant
- Helping to develop a supportive, innovative, and dynamic company culture
Requirements:
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field
- 3+ years of relevant experience with electrochemical systems or characterization methods
- Strong grasp of electrochemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science fundamentals
- Knowledge of electrochemical characterization techniques and electrolyzer design principles
- Ability to select and perform analytical techniques for physical and chemical characterization of solids and aqueous solutions
- Superior presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen, distill information, consult, and suggest new approaches
- Ability to pay close attention to detail, focusing on accuracy and quality, without losing sight of the bigger picture
- Balance, perspective, and a good sense of humor
