Job Description / Essential Elements

The Inclusion Specialist coordinates with the school principal, school psychologist, and Director of Special Services/Special Education to support students with disabilities in general education classrooms. The Specialist provides assessment, consultation, and support to ensure students receive specially designed instruction, behavior plans, and related services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Consult with general education teachers to develop classroom enrichment activities for students with disabilities.
  • Assess student behavioral, social, and academic skills to inform IEP development.
  • Develop and implement behavior support/intervention plans for students with disabilities.
  • Advise students with disabilities on educational, vocational, and personal goals.
  • Assess student progress, revise IEP goals, and communicate with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Work cooperatively with parents, teachers, and other professionals to implement IEPs and provide support services.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, complete, and timely records.
Qualifications

A. Knowledge

  • Understanding of District, County, State, and Federal policies and regulations.
  • Support for students' goals related to WorkAbility I (WAI), Workforce Investment Act (WIA), and Transition Partnership Program (TPP).
  • Effective English usage.
  • Effective record-keeping procedures.
  • Knowledge of student-teacher-parent relationships.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and related ethics.
  • Basic fundamentals of computer operations.

B. Skills

  • Two years of experience working in a Special Education program.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and use good judgment.
  • Experience in developing work sites in the community.
  • Vocational training, workshops, and seminars.
  • Capability to work and relate well to students, staff, and potential employers.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students, parents, and staff.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and timely records.
  • Writes legibly (communicates effectively written/orally).
  • Ability to drive an automobile (possession of a valid California driver's license).
  • Experience coordinating special education services between agencies.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Techniques of diplomacy.
Physical Requirements

A. Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without hearing aids.

B. Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone.

C. Operate a telephone, fax, and computer.

D. Operate a motor vehicle.

E. Sit, stand, walk, bend over, stoop, grasp, reach overhead, push, pull, and move, lift, and/or carry 0-25 pounds to waist height.

Work Environment

Employees in this position will work indoors in a standard classroom environment, travel by motor vehicle outdoors in varying temperatures, and come into direct contact with students, parents, teachers/staff, and the public.
