Job Title: Instructor/Director, Theatre

Lamar State College-Port Arthur is seeking a dynamic theatre instructor to serve as a faculty member and Director of Theatre for the Commercial Music, Visual and Performing Arts Department (CMVPA) in the beautiful Sam and Linda Monroe Performing Arts Center.

Job Summary:

This position reports to the Chair of the CMVPA Department and enjoys a three-course (9 credit hour) teaching load which reflects a two-course (6 credit hour) release, per long semester. Responsibilities include overseeing the College's theatre classes and theatrical productions; recruiting high school and college students interested in performing in theatrical productions and/or majoring in theater; teaching assigned courses face-to-face, online and in hybrid formats; teaching Early College High School classes; advising students academically and serving on Departmental/College level committees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach day, evening and/or online classes and labs.
  • Plan and organize quality instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Develop, update, and post course syllabi in a timely manner.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Participate in campus events, committee assignments, and graduation ceremonies.
  • Recruit, advise and tutor students.
  • Maintain required office hours.
  • Interact with students, faculty, and staff members in a professional manner.
  • Oversee equipment set up and maintenance.
  • Effectively write reports and business correspondence.
  • Efficiently present information and respond to information/comments from vendors, suppliers, students and employees.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret professional publications, technical procedures, manuals and/or statutory regulations.
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs including, but not limited to, an online learning management system, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and e-mail.
  • Serve as Director of Theatre producing productions during the fall and spring semesters.
Requirements:

Terminal degree (MFA or doctorate in Theatre) required, collegiate-level teaching experience, and the ability to work collaboratively required. Ability to understand the teaching and evaluation methodologies used in the total instructional process. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff members in a professional manner. Must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others. Ability to clearly communicate. Must comply with established College rules and procedures. Computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience serving as Director of Theatre at an institution of higher education. The ability to design and build sets, and design and focus stage lights. Experience directing musical theatre productions in collaboration with musical directors and choreographers.
