Core Laboratory Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Core Laboratory Manager to join our team at WMU Homer Stryker, M.D. School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing daily operations within our research core laboratories, ensuring the highest level of quality and efficiency in our research endeavors.

• Manage the organization, development, and implementation of standard operating protocols for select core laboratories.
• Oversee the maintenance and management of equipment within select core laboratories, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
• Provide training and instruction to new users on the use of core equipment, ensuring a smooth transition and minimizing disruptions to research activities.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records and workspaces within select core laboratories, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
• Manage routine maintenance procedures and emergency repair situations, minimizing disruptions to research activities.
• Stay up-to-date with new technology and policy/procedure revisions, ensuring compliance and optimal performance.
• Be available to work on weekends and evenings to complete time-sensitive projects, as needed.
• Assist new Principal Investigators with lab start-up, including arranging moving and shipment of items, ensuring a seamless transition.
• Develop and implement lab safety standards and safety training programs, including videos, for WMed investigators, ensuring a safe working environment.
• Develop and implement chemical safety standards and chemical safety training programs, including videos, for WMed investigators, ensuring a safe working environment.
• Develop and implement lab/chemical safety protocols for departmental labs, ensuring compliance and optimal performance.
• Develop and implement a lab safety monitoring/continuous improvement program for departmental labs, including corrective actions, ensuring a safe working environment.
• Manage negotiations and contracts for use of core facilities by the Innovation Center and other outside interests, ensuring optimal performance and compliance.
• Establish and ensure efficient arrangement and use of laboratory space on the 5th floor, ensuring optimal performance and compliance.
• Assist in faculty and staff recruitment, ensuring a diverse and talented team.
• Onboard new 5th floor employees, ensuring a smooth transition and minimizing disruptions to research activities.
• Develop external user contacts for the core labs, ensuring optimal performance and compliance.
• Administer the Smartvue Pro System (cold unit monitoring) for all 5th floor laboratories, ensuring optimal performance and compliance.
• Perform all other duties as assigned, ensuring optimal performance and compliance.

• Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, or related field required.
• MS or PhD in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, or related field preferred.
• Experience with Next Generation Sequencing data (e.g. RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq) preferred.
• Coding experience (e.g. R, Perl, or Python) related to the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing preferred.
• Able to perform duties independently and as a team member.
