Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Draftsman III to join our team at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for preparing multi-discipline engineering drawings using computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate, complete, and organized representations of architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, process, and structural engineering design features using CADD software.
  • Generate complex CADD engineering drawings in both two-dimensions and three-dimensions.
  • Review and revise drawings in accordance with District CADD standards and procedures.
  • Use CADD software to provide data, generate reports, maintain databases, prepare quantity take-offs, and perform other related functions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other draftsmen to discuss design requirements, drawing layouts, and CADD standards.
  • Archive CADD drawings, research archives to retrieve drawings, and maintain files of standard drawings and details.
  • Stay current on CADD software techniques and tools.
  • Supervise and review the work of subordinate draftsmen, ensuring compliance with District policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Possession of an Associate's Degree in CADD in the AEC discipline and three years of drafting experience in support of professional architects or engineers.
  • Substitution of CADD experience for required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • One year of experience with the District as an Engineering Draftsman II or civil service status as an Engineering Draftsman II.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering drafting principles, practices, and techniques in both two-dimensions and three-dimensions.
  • Advanced understanding of drafting approaches for engineered structures, sewers, electrical equipment, civil works, mechanical equipment, process, and instrumentation flow diagrams.
  • Ability to prepare graphic displays, charts, tables, and exhibits using CADD software and digital images.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment, including computers. Work may also involve visiting areas where hard hat, gloves, ear protection, safety glasses, and/or safety shoes may be required.
