POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the guidance of a registered nurse, the Nursing Assistant Trainee offers support to residents by facilitating activities and services as instructed, adhering to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations to ensure the highest standard of care is upheld consistently.
The Nursing Assistant Trainee will refrain from undertaking any responsibilities for which they have not received appropriate training and demonstrated proficiency as evaluated by an instructor.
QUALIFICATIONSCompletion of a state-sanctioned Nursing Assistant training program is required prior to employment.
Must successfully pass the Nursing Assistant Competency Examination and be registered on the Healthcare Worker Registry within a specified timeframe after hiring.
Applicants must be at least 16 years old, possess good character, and demonstrate reliability and trustworthiness.
A high school diploma or G.E.D. is mandatory. Current CPR certification is required or must be obtained within two weeks of starting employment.
Demonstrated interest or knowledge in providing care for the ill, disabled, and elderly is essential. The ability to interact tactfully with customers, family members, and staff is necessary.
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Exhibiting a cooperative spirit and the ability to work well with others is crucial.
Must be personable, enthusiastic, and engaging.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to move around the facility throughout the workday is necessary.
Must be capable of managing the mental and emotional demands of the role.
Must possess adequate sight and hearing or utilize prosthetics to ensure effective performance of job responsibilities.
Independence, flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work collaboratively with residents, visitors, and staff are essential.
Good overall health and emotional stability are required.
Must be able to relate to and assist individuals who may be ill, disabled, young, emotionally distressed, or occasionally hostile.
May be required to lift, push, pull, and transport equipment and supplies exceeding fifty (50) pounds during the workday.
Exposure to infectious materials, diseases, and conditions, including but not limited to HIV and Hepatitis B, is a possibility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESAssists in delivering care and services related to daily living activities as directed by the nursing staff.
Contributes to the creation of a personalized care plan for each resident that identifies their specific needs.
Actively participates in care plan meetings and resident or family councils when invited.
Reports any concerns or complaints from residents or their families to the appropriate authority.
Conducts rounds to ensure residents' safety and comfort.
Maintains a warm, welcoming atmosphere and promotes a calm environment within the department.
Engages in ongoing education and training programs.
Assists in developing and implementing an effective orientation program for new staff members.
Recommends necessary equipment and supply needs to the nursing director.
Handles and organizes residents' personal belongings as needed.
Assists residents in packing their personal items during transfers or discharges.
Participates in nursing report sessions at the beginning of each shift.
Maintains accurate records of residents' intake and output as instructed. Monitors and reports on bowel movements and stool characteristics.
Responsible for making and changing beds, ensuring linens are clean, and maintaining tidy living spaces.
Responds promptly to call lights and telephone inquiries, and runs errands as requested.
Measures and records vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, and weight as required.
Conducts thorough skin assessments during resident care and reports any abnormalities to the nursing staff.
Observes and documents changes in residents' physical conditions, attitudes, and appetites, reporting findings to the nursing team for care plan adjustments.
Encourages residents to engage in self-care and rehabilitation activities.
Provides support to residents at the end of life and assists with care for deceased residents.
Records residents' food and fluid intake, completing necessary monitoring forms and reporting changes in eating habits.
Ensures residents have access to clean and fresh drinking water at all times.
Serves snacks between meals and at bedtime.
Utilizes transfer belts as needed for resident safety.
Keeps the nurses' call system easily accessible for residents.
Immediately reports any hazardous conditions or equipment to the nursing staff.
Participates in the development and implementation of the facility's Quality Assurance program for the nursing department.
Performs additional related duties as assigned.
