Position Overview

The Department of State Hospitals is seeking applications for a Permanent, Full-Time Supervising Registered Nurse (Safety) role within the Clinical Administration Office. This position operates under the direct oversight of the Assistant Clinical Administrator, with work hours that may be adjusted to fulfill departmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN) plays a vital role in supporting the Assistant Clinical Administrator, Program Directors, Nursing Coordinator, Central Nursing Services, and Central Staffing Office in various Quality Improvement Projects. The SRN is tasked with the supervision, guidance, and coordination of nursing personnel, acting as an extension of the ACA's authority as needed.

Specific duties include:

  • Directing and coordinating emergency nursing services for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Adjusting staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Planning and facilitating training for nursing staff.
  • Serving as a primary contact resource after hours and liaising with external facilities.
  • Actively participating in the hospital's Quality Improvement Projects.
  • Providing guidance to nursing staff to ensure adherence to Standards of Practice and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.
  • Recommending, planning, and implementing nursing and hospital policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong leadership abilities, possess exceptional clinical knowledge and skills, and have a comprehensive understanding of nursing policies and procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the capacity to problem-solve and prioritize effectively, are essential. Proficiency in computer skills and the ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism are also required.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must be able to interpret and comply with The Joint Commission Standards, Title 22 regulations, and hospital policies, including Nursing Policies/Procedures and Administrative Directives. Candidates must not be on probation at the time of application submission.

Desirable Qualifications

Previous experience as an SRN or in a leadership capacity for a minimum of two years is preferred. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and judgment skills, along with a solid attendance record, are highly valued.

Working Environment

This role is situated within a forensic psychiatric hospital, which provides treatment to both forensically and civilly committed patients in a secure setting.

Special Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Drug Screening prior to employment.
  • Background Investigation clearance prior to employment.
  • Medical Clearance prior to employment.
  • Possession of a Registered Nurse License, with a copy required prior to employment.
