Job Overview

Library Systems & Services is in search of a proficient Communications Specialist to contribute to our mission at a United States Navy facility. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in communications, public relations, or journalism, with demonstrated expertise in managing communication initiatives, facilitating media relations, and crafting content across diverse platforms. This position necessitates a SECRET Clearance and the capability to effectively articulate the Navy's mission, values, and objectives through various media outlets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Development: Create, write, and refine content for articles, feature stories, press releases, statements, and other communication materials for digital, web-based, and printed distribution.
  • Research & Interviews: Conduct interviews and perform thorough research to gather information for communication pieces, ensuring precision and relevance.
  • Approval & Release Management: Secure necessary approvals for content dissemination, ensuring adherence to Navy policies and guidelines.
  • Social Media Oversight: Oversee social media channels utilizing tools like Hootsuite, analyze performance metrics, and devise strategies to boost engagement and outreach.
  • Media Relations: Assist in media relations initiatives, including drafting press releases, coordinating with media outlets, and managing inquiries.
  • Internal Communication: Design and implement internal communication programs, including newsletters, internal announcements, and other communication tools.
  • Community Engagement: Support community engagement efforts, including planning and executing special events and outreach initiatives.
  • Visual Content Support: Provide photographic support for various events and communication needs, ensuring high-quality visual content in collaboration with photographers and visual information specialists.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including public affairs, marketing, and leadership, to align communication strategies with organizational objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to produce clear and engaging content.
  • Proficiency in utilizing social media platforms and analytics tools such as Hootsuite.
  • Experience in public relations, media relations, and community outreach.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a military or government context.
  • Active SECRET Clearance
  • Familiarity with Navy-specific communication guidelines and standards.
