POSITION OVERVIEW
The grocery procurement specialist is responsible for sourcing products within the financial framework established by the organization while ensuring optimal inventory levels. This role involves managing the physical stock of the grocery section, negotiating advantageous terms and discounts, organizing promotional events, discount initiatives, and product showcases, while collaborating with other departments for the introduction and education of new products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Exhibit outstanding customer service and set a professional example for sales and stocking personnel by actively engaging on the sales floor.
  • Promote our products in an engaging, informative, and enthusiastic manner, sharing insights and recommendations during customer interactions. Regularly provide samples.
  • Address customer concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Advise on grocery products with expertise, offering recommendations and alternatives when items are unavailable.
  • Establish retail pricing while adhering to budgetary margins, and suggest margin adjustments to management when necessary.
  • Ensure a consistent supply of samples or testers.
  • Maintain strong relationships and open communication with all suppliers.
  • Regularly update order boards and guides for suppliers, reflecting new items, discontinued products, pack size changes, and updated contact information.
  • Handle quality and supply issues professionally and promptly, following procedures for credits and returns to maintain financial integrity.
  • Stay informed on recalls, regulatory matters affecting products, and labeling definitions (organic, humane, non-GMO, etc.).
  • Ensure inventory levels are maintained appropriately, avoiding stock shortages or overstock situations.
  • Conduct category management by analyzing sales trends and considering replacements for slow-moving items.
  • Facilitate customer special orders.
  • Identify damaged or unsellable products and assess financial responsibility swiftly.
  • Uphold high standards for the appearance of grocery products, displays, and signage, ensuring cleanliness and effective merchandising.
  • Create and maintain clear and accurate shelf talkers and signage for grocery items.
  • Plan and coordinate promotions with the grocery manager, ensuring timely product orders and vendor negotiations for sampling allowances.
  • Oversee merchandising support for grocery, including end caps and displays, ensuring all items are organized and presentable.
  • Review daily sales performance, comparing it with historical data to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Prepare for and conduct departmental inventories according to the store's schedule, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Manage database entries accurately, ensuring new items are entered correctly and inventory levels are adjusted for discrepancies.
  • Communicate daily with receiving and stocking teams to ensure proper product flow and accuracy in purchase orders and invoices.
  • Participate in safety training and submit records by the designated deadlines.

STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting and assisting customers, anticipating their needs, and fostering a welcoming environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A college diploma along with significant experience in grocery procurement, merchandising, retail, or wholesale (minimum of 2 years).

Physical Requirements:

This role involves continuous lifting and transporting of loads between 15-50 lbs, along with intermittent standing, walking, bending, reaching, sitting, and occasional climbing, stooping, twisting, and fine manipulation. Exposure to varying environmental conditions such as cold, heat, and moisture may occur, with rare exposure to dust and fumes. Use of equipment including dollies, computers, and printers is required.


Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge of natural food products in the grocery sector. Strong oral and written communication skills, along with interpersonal abilities to engage with diverse groups including vendors, staff, and customers.

Understanding of retail business operations, including margin calculations, time management, self-motivation, organizational skills, and problem-solving capabilities.

Proficiency in

MS Word and Excel.

Language Proficiency:
Fluency in English and professional communication skills are essential.

Travel Requirements:
No travel is required.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position requiring a flexible schedule based on business needs.

Attendance:
