About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate to join our team at Alumni Ventures, a leading venture capital firm that invests in startups. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in investment banking, private equity, or venture capital, and a demonstrated interest in AI and Blockchain technologies.

The Senior Associate will be responsible for deal sourcing, researching and evaluating potential investment opportunities, and managing relationships with portfolio companies and fellow venture investors. The successful candidate will source high-quality investments for our funds and have significant input into the creation of an annual portfolio of ~20-30 venture investments.

This is a hybrid role, with an expectation that the individual will work from our Menlo Park or Chicago office at least 4 days per week. Alumni Ventures is a fast-paced, professional, and entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and research potential investment opportunities, as well as develop and maintain the deal pipeline
  • Develop investment memos and execute the Investment Committee processes
  • Assist in the monitoring of existing investments and support existing founders in the portfolio across a variety of efforts
  • Maintain fund performance metrics in close collaboration with AV back office / finance support
  • Manage deal flow and related database inputs
  • Conduct outreach to VCs, entrepreneurs, incubators, and more to help fill our deal pipeline with prospects
  • Vet potential deal opportunities that align with AV's investment mandate, including interviewing company teams, competitors, customers, etc.
  • Present companies and work closely and collaboratively with the Managing Partner and Partners, as well as other teams within AV
  • Educate deal sources and companies/entrepreneurs about AV and our process and effectively manage relationships in a professional, courteous manner
  • Work closely with sibling funds to identify mutual interesting investment opportunities
  • Develop and maintain proprietary deal and market intelligence
  • Contribute positively to AV's culture
Requirements
  • MBA or Master's preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 1-2 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, growth equity preferred
  • 3-5 years of additional professional experience in investment banking, start-up strategy/operations, consulting and/or other applicable experience
