The Podiatric Hospitalist is responsible for delivering comprehensive patient care by evaluating medical histories and synthesizing essential health data. This role includes providing education, consultation, and intervention to patients and their families, specifically focusing on conditions affecting the foot, ankle, and related leg structures. The schedule consists of 8-hour day shifts, with occasional weekend and evening on-call duties shared among the podiatric team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct Patient Care:
- Specializes in the management of conditions related to the foot, ankle, and associated leg structures.
- Handles all limb salvage cases and inpatient podiatric consultations, including necessary surgical procedures.
- Collaborates as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team, working alongside vascular surgery, internal medicine, and infectious disease specialists.
- Conducts thorough reviews of patient medical histories while prioritizing and synthesizing relevant health information.
- Evaluates and interprets data to make informed decisions regarding patient care.
- Provides educational resources and treatment plans to patients and their families.
- Engages with patients to enhance their health and overall well-being.
- Practices with consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy, and legal responsibilities.
- Delivers care within a hospital environment.
- Documents patient information electronically in accordance with professional standards.
- Actively participates in a multidisciplinary approach to case management.
- May engage in on-call responsibilities.
- May oversee duties in wound care clinics.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a 24-month residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery from a program accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME).
- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience in the specialty area.
- Licensed Physician in accordance with state medical board requirements.
- ACLS-BLS certification required within 180 days of hire.
- PALS certification may be required based on the business unit.
- NRP certification may be required based on the business unit.
- Board Certification or Board Eligibility by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ABFAS) is required.
- Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate and Prescription Monitoring Program registration required upon hire.
- National Provider Identifier registration required upon hire.
Physical Demands:
Medium Work: Lifting up to 32 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently, in accordance with safe patient handling policies.
