Legislative and Policy Analyst – Next City
Next City, a prominent nonprofit organization focused on urban innovation and policy development, is seeking a dedicated Legislative and Policy Analyst. This pivotal role is situated within our Government Affairs Department, which plays a crucial part in our outreach, engagement, and advocacy initiatives. The Analyst will provide essential analytical support to the Government Affairs Director and Managers by conducting thorough research on legislation, policies, and regulations at various governmental levels, including federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legislative and Policy Research: Examine and interpret legislation introduced by various governmental bodies. Identify and prioritize relevant legislative and policy proposals that align with Next City's mission. Maintain accurate records using legislative tracking software and summarize committee hearings and federal rulemaking relevant to our objectives.
- Government Outreach Support: Compose advocacy letters and outreach materials for lawmakers and government officials. Prepare talking points to assist our volunteers in their advocacy efforts. Engage with government officials and legislative staff as necessary to bolster our advocacy initiatives.
- Program Management: Develop newsletters and articles to promote departmental activities. Support high-level meetings by compiling necessary background information and creating informative briefings and collateral materials. Assist in organizing outreach efforts and managing online resources.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience in government affairs, lobbying, or related fields is preferred, particularly in areas such as energy efficiency and building standards.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze legislative materials.
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Familiarity with the legislative process and ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and collaborative spirit.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- A self-motivated individual with a strong sense of accountability and ethical standards.
