Job Overview

Position Summary

Key Responsibilities:

1. Uphold established Nursing Standards of Practice, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Adhere to unit-specific protocols. Administer medications and IV solutions in accordance with Nuvance Health policies and procedures, consulting relevant resources as necessary.
2. Evaluate the educational needs of patients and their families, providing tailored instruction and assessing the effectiveness of the education delivered.
3. Engage in unit-based initiatives and Nuvance Health committees, participate in continuing education programs, maintain and update educational records, and be active in professional organizations.
4. Facilitate patient care by delegating tasks to team members, ensuring a therapeutic environment, and demonstrating strong organizational and prioritization skills. Take on the role of charge RN when required and assist in the orientation and training of nursing staff.
5. Perform additional duties as assigned.
6. Ensure compliance with all responsibilities related to the position.

Qualifications:

Required: Current RN license in Connecticut. BSN is preferred. Experience in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Oncology, and IV Therapy is advantageous. Oncology Chemotherapy and Biological Therapy Certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment. Basic Life Support Certification is mandatory.
Minimum Experience: 0 to 6 months.
Desired: Proficient IV insertion skills, comprehensive knowledge of chemotherapeutic agents, and familiarity with indwelling central venous catheter devices. Understanding of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process and ICD-9 codes is beneficial. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment under the guidance of the Medical Director.
