Aircrewman Careers in the Navy Reserve

As an Aircrewman in the Navy Reserve, you'll have the opportunity to serve in a variety of roles, including:

Aircrewman Aviation

Use advanced sonar technology to detect, analyze and classify submarines. Fly with a fixed wing integrated tactical aircrew while operating aerial photographic equipment to uncover threats in the deep. Communicate your findings with larger teams, including joint special warfare operations where you could potentially conduct weapons delivery in support of their tactical missions.

Aircrewman Helicopter

Swim, fly, save lives - the job of an Aircrewman Helicopter is that of a superhero. You'll be the lookout, the weapons, the swimmer and the rescuer, operating behind the cockpit of a helicopter.

Aircrewman Mechanical

Maintain and troubleshoot aircraft while carefully handling million-dollar equipment on board. Perform medical evacuations, small arms transports and deliver necessities to your fellow Sailors out at sea.

Aircrewman Operator

Play mind games with your opponent to predict their every move - it's like a movie plot, but in reality, you're the ultimate defense against threats from the deep, locating, tracking and engaging hostile submarines.

Aircrewman Tactical Romeo Helicopter

Search for a deadly weapon in a haystack - only the haystack is 139 million square miles. As part of the helicopter aircrew, you'll search the open water in MH-60 Romeos for submarines that lurk beneath. You'll also be trained rescue swimmers, leaping from helicopters into the sea to save lives.

Education Opportunities

Navy Reserve Sailors continue to hold educational opportunities through Tuition Assistance, DANTES and their post 9/11 or Montgomery GI Bill. Further education opportunities are also available through the US Naval War College and Senior Enlisted Academy, as well as certifications and licenses available through the Navy Credentialing Opportunities Online (COOL).

Qualifications and Requirements

To become an Aircrewman in the Navy Reserve, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or equivalent
  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Be 17 years of age or older

General qualifications may vary depending upon whether you're currently serving, whether you've served before or whether you've never served before.

Work Environment

Serving part-time as a Navy Reserve Sailor, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Sailors in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes.
