Key Responsibilities- Prepare the surgical suite for specific procedures by collecting and utilizing available data, operating room schedules, and medical preference cards.
- Utilize knowledge of procedures to prepare surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures for infection control, universal precautions, and dress code.
- Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to established policy.
- Verify exposure to sterilization processes and integrity of sterile packaging.
- Assist with preparation of instruments and equipment for decontamination or terminal sterilization.
- Identify problems in patient care delivery and refer to the appropriate circulating nurse or nurse manager.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and report variances to the supervisor immediately.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited program and certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist.
- Completed continuing education requirements.
