Poughkeepsie, New York, United States Nuvance Health Full time

Position Overview

The Vascular Sonographer plays a crucial role in the assessment and diagnosis of vascular conditions through the use of advanced ultrasound technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Thoroughly review the patient's medical background and the physician's directives. Confirm that a valid order exists for the ultrasound examination. Clearly articulate the procedure to the patient and address any inquiries they may have, ensuring their comfort throughout the process.
  2. Prepare the ultrasound equipment for the examination. Select the patient from the modality work list and adjust the equipment settings accordingly. Verify patient identity by asking them to state their name and date of birth. Guide the patient into positions that optimize imaging quality.
  3. Utilize specialized equipment to emit non-ionizing, high-frequency sound waves into the patient's body. The equipment captures the reflected sound waves, creating images that can be digitally stored and sent for interpretation by a physician.
  4. During the imaging process, observe visual indicators that differentiate healthy tissues from pathological ones. Adhere to established protocols for imaging and measurements pertinent to each examination.
  5. Process ultrasound and PVR/ABI images in compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  6. Draft preliminary reports in Fuji Synapse CV for physician review. Before finalizing the report, ensure that all demographic information and findings are accurate and complete.
  7. Assist in the training of new vascular ultrasound personnel.
  8. Engage in all venous procedure days, providing support to the physician during these procedures.
  9. Follow established infection control protocols diligently.
  10. Contribute to quality assurance and improvement initiatives, assisting with IAC accreditation as required. Comply with directives from the Ultrasound supervisor and medical director.
  11. Exemplify and uphold the core values of Nuvance Health.
  12. Demonstrate consistent, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  13. Be prepared to perform duties across multiple sites within the VBMC CTC network.
  14. Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A two-year Associate's Degree in a specialized or technical field, and/or completion of a one-year vascular ultrasound certification program or equivalent experience. A Bachelor's degree in a related science field is preferred.
  • Required registration through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Vascular Technologist (RVT) or certification from Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS).
