Overview

A seasoned professional with extensive experience in estimating and field operations is required to join our team at MasTec Civil, LLC. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of estimating experience and 3 years of field experience in Heavy Civil Construction. In addition, they must be knowledgeable about various contract delivery methods, including design-build, design-bid-build, lump sum, and others. Experience working with FDOT, Turnpike, cities, counties, port authorities, and the South Florida Water Management District is also essential.

This individual must be self-motivated, able to collaborate effectively with peers, and willing to teach and mentor young engineers. They should constantly strive to identify problems and solutions, ensuring that projects are completed efficiently and within budget.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Understanding bid items, basis of estimate, skills to identify errors and discrepancies in plans and specifications, and solutions.

• Developing a wide understanding of reading plans, specifications, request for proposal, request for information, addendums, technical special provisions, etc.

• Building green sheet estimates, breaking down activity structures, construction schedules, and risk matrix analysis.

• Creating job budgets for awarded contracts.

• Understanding bid strategies, cost savings initiatives, and management skills.

• Performing accurate and timely quantity takeoffs.

• Being capable of individually estimating an entire job.

• Studying and reviewing all estimating reports: equipment total hours, labor total hours, key indicators, equipment balance analysis, etc.

• Constantly reviewing updated FDOT Standards and Specifications.

• Conducting a full review of bid submittal packages and leading estimating discussions with company executives.

• Obtaining clarifications on plans and specifications from owners or engineers of records.

• Coordinating and inviting suppliers and subcontractors to quote different scopes of work.

• Analyzing suppliers and subcontractor pricing inputs when required.

• Building and strengthening relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.

• Having a complete understanding of unit cost analyzes.

• Assisting with pre-bid meetings and bid submittals.

• Keeping updated information regarding commodity trade prices.

• Continuously looking into new construction technologies and techniques.

• Maintaining ongoing education in construction by attending engineering conventions, forums, etc.

• Continuing communication with field personnel (project engineers, superintendents, foremen, fleet managers, etc.) to track and adjust unit costs as necessary.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• Minimum 13 years of experience in Heavy Civil Construction

• Must be located in Florida

• B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management degree

• Possess high work values, integrity, and ethical standards.

• Possess great focus to meet and exceed company requirements and expectations.

• Possess good organization skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Must have knowledge in bridge and roadway construction.

• Savvy in foundations, concrete structures, temporary structural systems, underground and utility work, earthwork, signalization, roadway lighting and signing, intelligent transportation system, safety standards, etc.

• Knowledgeable in design-build and design-bid-build contracts with FDOT and Turnpike Enterprises.

• Teaching and mentoring skills.

The successful candidate should have proficiency in the following software:

• 30-Hour OSHA training

• Heavy Bid from HCSS

• Vista Accounting software

• Bluebeam by REVU

• AutoCAD-Civil 3D
