Position Overview:
As a Welding and Forming Process Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to oversee engineering aspects related to the planning, management, and maintenance of production methodologies for forming and welding equipment, with a focus on laser, plasma, and resistance welding techniques.
Your role will involve working on initiatives aimed at enhancing workplace safety, improving product quality, streamlining processes, and positively influencing the financial performance of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze equipment, processes, operations, and procedures to pinpoint opportunities for enhancements in safety, quality, throughput, and cost efficiency.
- Implement modifications and refine operational standards.
- Assess vendor proposals for new equipment acquisitions.
- Choose and apply appropriate manufacturing processes while employing modern organizational principles to produce competitively priced products.
- Identify and enhance existing and new manufacturing processes through continuous improvement methodologies.
- Collaborate closely with production and maintenance teams to ensure equipment is maintained in optimal condition.
- Conduct capability assessments and time studies.
- Develop processes, which may include creating visual work instructions.
- Provide production support and troubleshoot process issues.
- Focus on reducing costs related to scrap, rework, and cycle time.
- Specify necessary tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Coordinate projects and manage daily troubleshooting activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement events such as Kaizen.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Mechanical, Welding, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience is required.
- 2-4 years of engineering project experience in metal manufacturing is preferred.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles, capability studies, process mapping, FMEA, and root cause analysis is essential.
- Ability to lead projects and thrive in a dynamic continuous improvement environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines.
- The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and adept at understanding complex process interactions.
- Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office, is required; experience with Creo and AutoCAD is a significant advantage.
