Division Overview

The Decision and Infrastructure Sciences (DIS) division focuses on the development of scientific tools and methodologies to enhance decision-making processes related to critical security, risk, and resilience issues. As a multidisciplinary laboratory, Argonne fosters a collaborative environment for tackling complex technical challenges through the integration of natural, social, and computational sciences.

Position Summary

DIS is currently seeking an Energy Security and Resilience Analyst to bolster our national security, energy security, and climate resilience analysis initiatives in partnership with various government entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate methodologies and processes for gathering and analyzing pertinent energy sector data, presenting findings that accurately reflect energy sector risks at federal, state, and global levels.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses to investigate, propose, and produce a variety of deliverables on topics related to energy security and resilience, including defense-critical energy infrastructure.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the energy sector, representing the division to sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Identify and articulate the significance of energy security planning, response, and restoration efforts for federal, state, and international governments.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at educating the energy sector on climate resilience strategies, collaborating with external organizations and industry groups.
  • Collaborate with experts across Argonne to generate assessments and reports for senior government officials.
  • Work alongside DIS and other Argonne specialists to assist government sponsors with a broad spectrum of domestic and international energy sector threats and vulnerabilities.

Position Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI or Q/SCI clearance as mandated by federal regulations.
  • A formal educational background in fields such as Energy Systems Engineering, Utility Management, Public Policy, or related disciplines is essential. Relevant experience in these areas will also be considered.
  • Experience collaborating with DOE program offices, DOD energy divisions, and state/local governments on energy security and climate resilience topics is advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy sector supply chains and risk assessment methodologies, along with experience in developing various outputs while adhering to information security protocols.
  • Strong independent judgment and the ability to derive general solutions from specific challenges.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the capability to translate technical information into accessible language for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating effective project management skills and resource allocation.
  • Experience in teamwork and leading independent analyses in support of various projects.
