Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Medical Technologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for facilitating team or unit processes, working collaboratively with team members to ensure tasks, priorities, goals, and achievements are coordinated with management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares reports, maintains records, and administrative information
  • Prepares and presents work-related information to supervisors
  • Researches qualitative and quantitative methods in laboratory specialty areas
  • Performs statistical analysis on quality control and quality assurance monitors
  • Performs qualitative and quantitative moderate and complex testing methods in laboratory specialty areas
  • Coordinates training in laboratory methods and techniques
  • Maintains and calibrates instrumentation and equipment
  • Troubleshoots instrumentation and equipment problems
  • Acts as a liaison to other departments of the medical center
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship
  • Education and/or Experience Combination: Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or related science, and completion of a medical technology clinical practice program
  • Current certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT)
  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with a minimum of 1 year of creditable experience equivalent to the full performance level (GS-9)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current working knowledge of clinical laboratory processes and concepts
  • Blood bank experience required
  • Hospital or reference laboratory experience recommended
Working Conditions

The incumbent must be able to perform moderate lifting up to 45 lbs, straight pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking, frequent standing, kneeling, repeated bending, and use of both arms and legs.

Specific visual requirements include use of both eyes and depth perception, ability to distinguish colors and shades of colors, hearing (aids permitted), clear high cognitive function, and emotional stability.

Ability to read ordinary type without strain.
