Position Summary:
The Medication Preparation Specialist is responsible for executing technical and administrative tasks related to the preparation, labeling, and dispensing of medications. This role is crucial in managing inventory and ensuring quality assurance protocols are followed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Pharmacist to coordinate and schedule the preparation of sterile admixtures and home medical equipment orders.
- Perform all necessary calculations for product preparation and secure validation from the Pharmacist prior to compounding or mixing.
- Compound sterile admixtures and non-admixtures, including parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, chemotherapy, hydration solutions, and narcotic analgesics, utilizing aseptic techniques as permitted by state regulations.
- Prepare labels, prescriptions, and compounding worksheets while maintaining accurate records of product lot numbers, expiration dates, and batch documentation.
- Generate delivery and pick slips under the supervision of the Pharmacist and manage the selection and retrieval of supplies and home medical equipment.
- Ensure that compounding and clean room areas, along with related equipment, are sanitized and maintained in accordance with company policies and USP standards, documenting all activities appropriately.
- Gather supply inventories from clients and relay necessary information to the Pharmacist as required.
- Engage in branch management, departmental meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Comply with all relevant accreditation, OSHA, FDA, state, local, and federal regulations concerning infusion pharmacy and home medical equipment.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program; IV certification is preferred.
- Valid pharmacy technician certification as required by the respective State Board of Pharmacy.
- One to three years of relevant pharmacy experience in a home care environment.
- At least one year of experience in aseptic preparation of infusion-related pharmaceuticals within a hospital or home infusion context.
- General understanding of pharmaceutical terminology, calculations, drug utilization, and aseptic techniques.
- Strong mathematical and communication skills are essential.
- Basic knowledge of reading and interpreting prescriptions.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with a high degree of accuracy.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
