Behavior Intervention Specialist

As a Behavior Technician SPED, you will provide behavioral support and instructional assistance to students with emotional and behavioral challenges in an assigned classroom or other learning environment. Your role will involve implementing positive behavior interventions and instructional support strategies to assigned students, collecting and maintaining data on student behavior, and performing various clerical and supportive tasks.
Requirements / QualificationsEducation and Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that indicates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed herein. A minimum of two years of college or equivalent is required. Two years' experience working with students is also necessary. At least one year of experience working with students in an educational setting is desired. Specialized training in manual physical restraint, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Positive Behavior Support Systems, and data collection is highly desirable. Coursework in psychology, child growth and development, education, special education, or other related fields is also beneficial.
ESSA Compliance:
Due to funding, all Behavior Intervention Facilitators must be ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) compliant. This requires passing the Paraprofessional Exam or having the equivalence of two years of college completion or an AA degree. Education may be substituted for experience. ESSA compliance can be demonstrated by college transcripts showing at least 48 semester units of coursework or a copy of an Associate's degree (or higher). Passing scores on an NCLB or ESSA proficiency test also meet this requirement.
