About this role:

As a Patient Care Technician at Fresenius Medical Care North America, you will play a vital part in supporting individuals with kidney disease. You will build strong relationships with patients, their families, and your fellow care team members. Your role will involve providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.

Key responsibilities:
  • Set up, test, and operate hemodialysis machines for patient treatments.
  • Obtain and document necessary pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight for each patient.
  • Evaluate vascular access pre-treatment and perform vascular access cannulation.
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed.
  • Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy.
  • Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access and discontinues dialysis treatment according to established procedures.
  • Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to supervisor.
  • Enter all treatment data into the designated clinical application in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Collect, label, and store lab samples according to required laboratory specifications.
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy.
  • Assist other healthcare members in providing patient education.
  • Prepare, organize, and efficiently use supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility (preferred but not required).
  • Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of the Fresenius Medical Care dialysis training program and successful completion of CPR certification.
