Position Summary:

The Linux Systems Administrator plays a crucial role in maintaining the reliability and security of our Linux/UNIX systems. Key responsibilities include installing, configuring, and managing servers and software, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting any arising issues. You will oversee user accounts, permissions, and file systems, while also ensuring the implementation and maintenance of system backups and disaster recovery protocols. Collaboration with various IT teams to support organizational projects is essential. Strong technical expertise in Linux/UNIX systems, proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash or Python, and excellent problem-solving skills are vital for success in this role.

Compensation: $80,000 - $125,000, based on the candidate's skills, experience, location, and qualifications.

Daily Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct daily system monitoring to ensure hardware integrity, server resource availability, and key process functionality. Review system and application logs, confirm the completion of scheduled tasks like backups, and assess compliance through scan results.
  2. Enhance resource utilization, perform system capacity analysis and planning, and document issues using the ITSM ticketing system for effective trouble management.
  3. Automate routine administrative tasks and address security vulnerabilities in accordance with corporate security protocols while resolving audit findings.
  4. Independently troubleshoot performance issues or collaborate with middleware and database administrators as needed.
  5. Assist in documenting existing, revised, and new processes and procedures.
  6. Support research and planning for upgrades, security patches, and fixes.
  7. Provide proactive support for both production and non-production application servers, ensuring compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  8. Guide disaster recovery exercises and manage application job issues and requests monthly.
  9. Ensure adherence to Agile and release management processes for changes.
  10. Raise awareness of application, tool, and data issues and their resolutions with relevant personnel.
  11. Respond to and resolve reported application, data, or tool issues promptly.
  12. Identify and resolve complex application issues using appropriate coding languages, toolsets, or configuration processes.
  13. Stay informed about advancements in information technology by reviewing manuals, trade publications, and technical reports related to middleware technology.

Required Qualifications:

  • Security Clearance: Top-Secret security clearance, fully adjudicated.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with AWS and the cloud ecosystem.
  • Working knowledge of RHEL 7+.
  • Education: Associate degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications: Security+ CE Certification required.
  • Preferred certifications may include:
    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
    • CompTIA Linux+
    • UNIX System Administration Certification
  • Extensive experience with Bash scripting and automation using Cron.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux.
  • Self-motivated, customer-oriented, and detail-focused with an emphasis on accuracy.
  • Experience with Agile and DevSecOps methodologies, along with project management skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and firewalls is advantageous.
  • Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl for automation purposes.
  • Familiarity with database management systems, including Oracle and SQL Server.
