We are seeking an experienced Medical Lab Technician to join our team at Anne Arundel Urology. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of PCR processes and standard lab protocols.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform Fluorescent In-Situ Hybridization (FISH) testing on urine samples, adhering to laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, and reporting.
- Analyze, score, and capture images of FISH slides using automated fluorescent scanning systems and/or manual fluorescent microscopy.
- Operate automated FISH laboratory instrumentation, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair procedures as required.
- Accurately document all testing activities, including patient specimens, proficiency testing, quality control results, and preventive maintenance/calibration of instruments.
- Perform proficiency testing samples in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Prepare fixatives and other reagents, including Phosphate Buffer Solution and different concentrations of alcohol.
- Ensure accurate entry of patient information and requisition into Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
- Record and maintain accurate quality control of equipment in the lab.
- Maintain flexibility to adapt to laboratory needs related to testing and scheduling.
- Manage inventory.
- Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related area is required.
- ASCP certification is preferred.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Sense of ownership and integrity of work.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical laboratory techniques.
