Position Summary

The Precision Machinist Specialist will be tasked with interpreting technical drawings, performing manual setups, and operating both conventional and CNC machinery to manufacture components that meet precise specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Exhibit proficiency in setting up and operating all essential shop equipment, as well as at least one of the following machines: mill, lathe, grinder, or CNC equipment.
  2. Analyze blueprints, sketches, and specifications to ascertain dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences.
  3. Select and secure the necessary fixtures, cutting tools, and materials for machining processes.
  4. Calculate and adjust controls to optimize machining parameters such as speed, feed, and coolant flow.
  5. Monitor machine operations to identify malfunctions or deviations from specifications, making adjustments as necessary.
  6. Utilize standard and precision measuring instruments to verify the conformance of finished products.
  7. Engage in specialized training as directed by supervisory staff.
  8. Adhere to quality management system requirements, including QMS, AS9100, and ISO 9000 standards.
  9. Travel may be required as necessary.
  10. Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a minimum of four (4) years of experience in a non-production machine shop environment or a combination of technical training and relevant experience.

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of machinery and tools, including their design, application, maintenance, and repair.
  2. Expertise in reading blueprints for both individual parts and assemblies.
  3. Skilled in using standard and precision measuring tools.
  4. Proficient in shop mathematics, including geometry, trigonometry, and algebra.
  5. Advanced understanding of machining processes, assembly methods, and mechanical operations.
  6. Ability to create specifications from general information and draft sketches for fabrication.
  7. Knowledge of design techniques and principles related to precision technical plans and models.
  8. Experience operating forklifts, cranes, and other powered material handling equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Technical degree in machinist trades with CNC training is preferred, or advanced knowledge of machining processes.
