Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

Oncology Formulary Oversight:

  • Administer the oncology formulary by assessing and integrating new therapeutic agents.
  • Identify the suitable care setting for patients undergoing oncology treatment, taking into account inpatient, outpatient, or regional facilities.
  • Supervise the evaluation process for off-label, non-formulary, or alternative uses of antineoplastic medications.
  • Encourage appropriate, standardized, and guideline-driven antineoplastic usage across all El Camino Health locations.
  • Examine provider requests for exception orders and assess literature support to inform the prior authorization process when necessary.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including physicians and healthcare professionals, to ensure the safe and effective application of these agents.

Collaboration with Pharmacy Informatics:

  • Partner with pharmacy informatics teams to aid in the creation and modification of Electronic Health Records (EHR) resources.
  • Ensure that EHR resources facilitate the safe and effective use of oncology medications, adhering to current guidelines and best practices.

Education and Training:

  • Coordinate, facilitate, and deliver education, training, competency assessments, and performance improvement initiatives for pharmacists, pharmacy residents, and other healthcare professionals regarding the appropriate use of antineoplastics and the latest advancements in oncology pharmacy.
  • Work with other disciplines to develop and implement best practices related to antineoplastic utilization across the institution.

Quality Assurance and Improvement:

  • Contribute to the institution's antineoplastic stewardship program by compiling data and metrics on antineoplastic usage in both outpatient and inpatient environments, reporting findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor antineoplastic utilization practices to identify areas for enhancement and implement necessary modifications.
  • Establish and maintain databases and dashboards that support the Antineoplastic Stewardship Program as required.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Quality and Patient Safety to assess, mitigate, and disseminate antineoplastic-related safety initiatives.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments in oncology pharmacy to ensure that pharmacy services align with current standards of care.
  • Assist in the formulation and maintenance of policies and procedures to promote the safe use of antineoplastic medications across all El Camino Health sites, enhancing patient outcomes through safe, effective, and appropriate medication therapy for patients receiving antineoplastic treatment.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an ACPE-accredited institution.
  • Completion of a one (1) year accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency.
  • Completion of a one (1) year PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Oncology/Hematology or BCOP certification with a minimum of two years of oncology experience, including pharmacy regulatory compliance and quality assurance data for Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:

  • Valid California state pharmacist license with no disciplinary actions that impede practice.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Valid National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Patient Demographics:
This role involves the assessment, treatment, and care of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.


Compensation:
Hourly Rate: $112.64 USD


Physical Requirements:
This position primarily involves sedentary work, with duties performed mostly while seated; occasional walking and standing may be required. Ability to lift or carry up to 10 lbs. is necessary.
