Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Swim Instructor to join our team at the City of Morro Bay Recreation Services. As a Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching swimming and water safety skills to students of all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach swimming and water safety skills to students of all ages
  • Assist students with special needs to participate in programs
  • Develop and implement lesson plans to meet the needs of students
  • Provide feedback and guidance to students to improve their swimming skills
  • Work efficiently as part of a team and independently

Requirements

  • Strong swimmer with good physical condition
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers & First Aid
  • Minimum 9 hours of CPR training acceptable
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Water Safety, swimming techniques, teaching principles and methods
  • Ability to perform and knowledge of or willingness to learn the 4 competitive strokes
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions

Working Conditions

Early morning and noon hours available six days a week. 3 – 25 hours per week with additional hours available during the summer.

Selection/Testing Process

All applications received will be reviewed for completeness, job-related qualifications, and proper certifications. Those candidates possessing the most desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in an oral interview. In-water skills assessment will take place at a later date.
