Position Overview

The MRI Technologist is responsible for delivering direct patient care utilizing Magnetic Resonance Imaging technology as directed by the physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize technical expertise to acquire diagnostic-quality images in accordance with established protocols and tailored to the patient's age and specific requirements.
  • Process and enhance images following the defined protocols and procedures.
  • Educate patients regarding the imaging process, detailing the nature of the procedure, the specific area being examined, and any special instructions necessary for the patient.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification in line with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Verify the control sheet or electronic records for the correct examination order and any relevant information prior to conducting the exam.
  • Label all MRI images appropriately according to departmental standards.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives by collecting and assisting in the analysis of relevant data as needed.
  • Administer MRI contrast injections.
  • Oversee radiology students assigned to the MRI department.
  • Notify relevant personnel regarding equipment malfunctions or unsafe conditions.
  • Perform clerical tasks in the absence of support staff.
  • Participate in professional development meetings and in-service training as required.
  • Conduct post-processing of MRI images, including 3-D reconstructions as necessary.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with hospital vendors and regulatory bodies is advantageous.
  • Ability to supervise support staff in the absence of the MRI Coordinator.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in reading and writing in English, with effective communication abilities.
  • Competence in utilizing electronic record systems (RIS) and other healthcare and billing systems pertinent to this role.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • New York State Radiologic Technologist License.
  • ARRT MRI Certification, except for staff who were grandfathered under the CBA with 1199.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift at least 60 pounds and assist with patient positioning.
