Job Description

The Director of Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors at multiple giving levels in support of CII's annual budget and strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops a strategic plan across funding streams (corporate, individuals, and major donors) through targeted prospect identification, qualification, and outreach, setting targets and using metrics to track progress and inform strategy.
  • Oversees CII's annual Cape & Gown Gala, with a minimum annual goal of $1,200,000 and 20% cost to fundraise.
  • Strengthens and streamlines CII's funding opportunities and how they are presented by working with marketing and communications, and program divisions to ensure work is cohesively packaged to communicate the agency's impact and potential to donors in an engaging and compelling way.
  • Builds relationships across CII locations and community hub sites; serves as point person for the External team on initiatives that support and inform the work and ability to attract funding and demonstrate the need and impact of CII's work and mission.
  • Generates new leads through prospect research and mining the existing supporter and volunteer network for viable introductions to support the External team in increasing and managing a healthy and consistently managed pipeline of prospects and donors.
  • Conducts outreach to qualify prospective donors for portfolio and other frontline fundraisers; collaborates with frontline fundraisers to determine appropriate relationship owner of newly qualified prospects.
  • Builds and manages a portfolio with an annual revenue target of $3,000,000, consisting of prospects and new donors from multiple revenue streams, ensuring a balanced and diversified funding base.
  • Formulates and implements donor engagement and solicitation plans and effective strategies leading to new and sustained annual and multi-year gifts.
  • Evaluates and enhances the recognition and stewardship of corporate, foundation, and individual partnerships, ensuring donor satisfaction and continued support.
  • Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of fundraising strategies and seeks opportunities for improvement.
  • Utilizes moves management strategies for consistent and documented outreach and solicitation for new gifts and new funds.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with colleagues by creating an environment of open communication and partnership.
  • Serves as a department and division leader supporting cross-team collaboration and success.
  • Partners with all CII departments through program events, projects, and cross-departmental committees as needed to ensure agency-wide goals are realized.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in sales, fundraising, non-profit development or related field.
  • 5 years experience in a management or leader capacity.
  • Experience to make cold-calls and the resilience to withstand rejection.
  • Excels at working with others in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong ability to provide strategic solutions at the highest level of the organization.
  • Superior writing skills, with experience authoring persuasive and eloquent arguments for written publication and public speaking.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor files and information; impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, Board members, CII clients and families, administrators and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CRM development database and use of databases to generate reports and evaluate performance.
  • Excellent at motivating individuals and corporations.
  • Valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
  • Required to travel extensively to sites (>50% of the time).
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Maintains patient privacy, including protecting the confidentiality, safeguarding the integrity and availability, and limiting the use and disclosure of patient Protected Health Information (PHI) to authorized individuals and entities.
  • Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.
  • Sensitivity to service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
