Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Civil Engineer to join our multi-disciplined Construction Site Engineering group. As a key member of our project team, you will play a crucial role in the development, design, and execution of construction projects for naval nuclear facilities.

Typical projects involve medium-to-large scale renovations, site infrastructure upgrades, and new construction of office buildings, laboratories, and test facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the technical process, developing project functional requirements, and providing field oversight to ensure compliance with project requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management, knowledge of industry and building trade practices, and proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office Suite. Prior experience developing construction subcontract documents and a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards are also highly desirable.

Responsibilities
  • Work within a project execution team environment with a Project Manager and engineers on construction projects for buildings and site infrastructure.
  • Develop work scopes with project sponsors and work with an A/E firm to develop the design.
  • Review (or prepare): drawings, specifications, cost estimates, preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Provide construction field engineering, inspection, testing, and commissioning support of building systems in preparation for and during construction.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science-related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science-related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.

Preferred Skills
  • Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering preferred
  • Knowledge of construction management
  • Knowledge of industry and building trade practice, techniques, codes, and standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe working practices
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Prior experience developing construction subcontract documents
  • A working knowledge of the applicable codes and standards, including IBC, AISC, ACI, ASTM, AWS, AWC, and AISI

About the Naval Nuclear Laboratory

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Our personnel work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston.
