Job Summary:

The Phoenix office of SmithGroup is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading and performing analysis, design and documentation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls.

You will assist in establishing project goals, budgets and schedules, track project performance, and follow/enforce quality control procedures.

You will meet with clients, project teams, code officials, contractors and others to address mechanical discipline issues and to develop effective working relationships.

You will present engineering design solutions to client representatives and/or design review committees.

You will serve as a mechanical systems specialist, conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope/complexity and devise solutions.

You will contribute to SmithGroup sustainable design initiatives by using a variety of software to perform energy, heating and cooling load and computational fluid dynamic calculations.

You will mentor junior and intermediate level staff and participate in performance coaching.

You will participate in the recruitment and interviewing process as requested.

Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working as a mechanical engineer designing HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, sustainable design and automatic control systems, including experience performing energy modeling.
  • LEED AP preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
  • The ability to lead and mentor others in area of expertise.
  • Working knowledge of the design and construction process and the ability to understand and communicate with professionals of other disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealing with internal and external clients.
