Job Summary:

The Certified School Nurse is responsible for managing the school health program, maintaining comprehensive health records for all students, and providing general nursing work, including health assessments, counseling, and collaboration with school personnel and service providers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, and monitor the school health program
  • Schedule and conduct medical examinations for students
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive health histories for students
  • Conduct annual and periodic health screening tests
  • Provide health counseling for students and the school community
  • Interpret the health status of students and counsel responsible parties
  • Refer students and responsible adults to community resources for health care
  • Provide specialized nursing care for students with chronic conditions
  • Maintain the school health room and provide care in cases of illness or injury
  • Record health program data for evaluation and continuity of services
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of own cultural identity and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others
  • Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment
  • Ability to understand and hold self and others accountable for promoting and attaining goals
  • Knowledge of PA Core Standards and Eligible Content
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public
Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program
  • Valid registered professional nurse license issued by the State Board of Nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Valid School Nurse Certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Education or a related field of study
  • 2+ years of experience teaching in education environments
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
  • Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
  • Indoor office environment is subject to frequent interruptions
  • Pushing, moving and lifting objects with a strength factor of light work
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment
  • Clarity of vision at varying distances
  • Verbal, auditory and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
Level of Compensation:

$50,119 - $101,320 (dependent on Step and Track placement as determined based on collective bargaining agreements)
